Notice how our 5 caterpillars have all turned into chrysalides, but 4 are brown and one is dark brown and under another. I am not sure the dark chrysalis will turn into a butterfly....hmm. We will see in 5-7 more days. LATER NOTE: The darker chrysalis HATCHED today, Thursday, April 16th. WOW! Pictures coming! PLEASE NOTE: DO THE SCRATCH TEST FIRST! Don't do it in the order on the paper. Do it before the float/ sink test. Lesson learned. Have fun going on a walk and gathering your favorite 5 rocks. This is a great, fun experiment. Enjoy! My husband came down and sat by the computer around 2 p.m. and said, "Did you know you have your first butterfly?" I screamed and came to look. Sure enough, there it way! WOW! So cool. It wasn't until the time lapse camera was set up that I saw the orange coloring of the inside of the wings. VERY SPECIAL! So...I guess we can conclude that the dark cocoons are getting more and more translucent and that means the butterflies are about to come out! Super cool. Friday, we should have a few more to show you on the Zoom meeting. time lapse of the first butterfly Hopefully, you have watched the links that have taught you about rocks and minerals. Here are a few pictures from my collection. Enjoy! |
